Johnson Electric is the technology leader in Engine Thermal Management and global market leader in providing Cooling Fan Modules (CFM). The Cooling Fan Module product line has been designed to match the different airflow needs of power train platforms including high performance, mid-size, and small engines. CFM platforms have been developed to manage the cooling of engines in three main power range; 200-300 KW, 100-200 KW and < 100KW. The airflow power of these 3 different CFM platforms will provide airflow power up to 300W, 200W, and 100W respectively. These CFM platforms are then custom engineered to deliver the exact cooling requirement to match the engine configuration while minimizing weight, space and noise. Cooling requirements vary based on the addition of features such as air conditioning, turbo chargers, and automatic transmissions. Mechanical designs are always custom engineered to meet the packaging and styling requirements of each vehicle platform. Johnson Electric has the technology capability to design motors, fans, shrouds and control electronics to match the precise operating points required of each engine. For the high power engine range, the CFM design options include twin fans powered by Brushless variable speed motors or Brushed speed regulated motors. For the medium and low power engine ranges, the CFM design options include 2 pole or 4 pole brushed motors in multi speed or single speed configurations. For higher performance medium size engines, lower power brushless variable speed motors are a design option. In every engine power classification, the CFM has a custom designed fan and shroud to maximize cooling performance and efficiency. Johnson Electric’s creation of CFM platforms aligned by airflow power and engine power is an innovation that allows more precise engine cooling throughout the operating cycle. This avoids the situation where overpowered CFM’s are deployed in smaller engines, which impacts fuel economy.
The CFM product line is marketed under the Gate brand in Europe and the Americas, and under the RiYong brand in China. CFM design centers and production plants are located in close proximity to our customers in Europe, North America, South America, and Asia.
