Methuen, Mass.—05 Dec, 2007—Johnson Electric today announced the formation of Johnson Medtech to meet the needs of medical device manufacturers worldwide. This new global network brings together the medical device design and manufacturing expertise of five existing Johnson Electric companies. With Johnson Medtech, for the first time, medical device manufacturers from large global firms to small innovative startups have access to high-quality, end-to-end design, prototyping and manufacturing capabilities from a single source.
“Most medical device companies are spending too much time managing multiple suppliers, navigating the complexities of outsourced manufacturing and making engineering compromises. This impacts their time to market and profitability,” said Jim Dick, senior vice president of Johnson Electric. “Johnson Medtech provides the solution for medical device manufacturers. Our local consulting and engineering services combined with the most advanced manufacturing and prototyping processes provide our customers a competitive edge. Our focus is on design for manufacturability and complete vertical integration.”
Johnson Medtech provides customers with the fastest time-to-market through dedicated, regional engineering teams in the USA, Hong Kong, Germany, Japan, China, and Israel. Manufacturing is conducted in the USA and Europe, and also at Johnson City, a five million square foot facility in China with the capabilities of handling small prototype design assignments to the largest projects.
Johnson Medtech’s engineering and design expertise have helped companies solve difficult design challenges, ranging from non-magnetic actuators that work inside MRI machines, to creating efficient motion solutions for surgical robotics. Johnson Medtech has helped companies reduce development time by more than 50 percent and produce working prototypes in less than a month if needed.
According to Paul Moraviec, CEO of Prosurgics, the UK-based leader in image guided surgical robotics, “Johnson Medtech’s commitment to high quality, cost effectiveness and speed, combined with their flexibility and passion for customer service make them an excellent choice of partner.”
In addition to utilizing Johnson Electric’s facilities and expertise in micro-motors, solenoids, switches, sensors, flexi-circuits and device assembly, Johnson Medtech is comprised of the following leading component brands:
- Parlex—a company that offers design, prototyping, assembly and custom manufacturing for flexible circuits and non-invasive sensors for hundreds of medical devices, including blood glucose strips, and disposable non-invasive EEG and EKG sensors.
- Johnson Motor—the worlds leading brand of DC micro-motors and gear motors for precision medical applications.
- Ledex—the leading brand of precision solenoids for the medical device and other industries.
- Nanomotion—a company that develops and manufactures ceramic servomotors, precision positioning systems and piezo motion solutions for microscopy and surgical applications.
- Saia—a leading brand of stepper motors and micro-switches for medical subsystems.
