Johnson Electric Opens Plant in Chennai, India

Strategic Move to Support Local Customers

Hong Kong, 6 Jan, 2010 --
Johnson Electric Holdings Limited (“Johnson Electric” Stock Code: 179) today announced that one of its subsidiaries, Johnson Electric International AG, will this week open a new plant in Chennai, India to increase production of its automotive motors.

The leased 22,000 sq. ft. plant, which will strengthen Johnson Electric’s existing position in the Indian automotive sector, will initially employ 100 staff.  It will produce motors for engine cooling fan modules and gear motors for window lift systems. In response to customer demand, the company expects that the Chennai site will develop into a full range supplier of electric motors and motion subsystems to the automotive industry in India.

“Our company is committed to be the ‘safe choice’ for our customers worldwide, so establishing operations in India to support local customers is an important part of our strategy”, said Patrick Wang, Johnson Electric’s Chairman and Chief Executive.

“We look forward to being part of the fast paced automotive industry in India, and partnering with its technology leaders,” he added.
